A Great Place for a Seizure - Review

A Great Place for a Seizure is probably one of the most outstanding books I have read that pertain to Epilepsy. I have seen so much of myself in this book that I cried multiple times. I have never read a book where seizures were described so well, and Terry Tracy (aka TT) deserves some sort of award for being able to describe them in this outstanding novel.

I was very emotional throughout the book, and like I said, I was even brought to tears several times. The seizures Mischa has are so similar to mine that it is almost unreal to me. I couldn't imagine another person in this world feeling the way I feel, and I found comfort in this novel knowing that there are others out there in this world. Even though it is fictional, I could tell that so much of this book was inspired by the author because the descriptions of the seizures were 100% dead-on.

I remember times in the doctor's office, describing what my seizure was like and getting stared at like I was a psychopath. This novel did a great job of showing how society looks at people who have Epilepsy, and how they are often treated, even today. Times have changed, but the way people with Epilepsy are treated hasn't changed entirely.

I don't want to give away all the details about this book, but I can say that this is a wonderful read for anyone who is suffering from Epilepsy, or knows someone who has Epilepsy. The story really illustrates the emotions and thoughts that a person has when they are suffering from something terrible like seizures, and I know that many people could easily connect with the character Mischa in this novel.

Mischa is a girl who didn't deserve Epilepsy, just like every other person out there who suffers from it. I am inspired by the character because she is a girl who is definitely not going to let Epilepsy stop her from being who she has always wanted to be. No matter how people look at her, or how people cradle her, she still moves on.

Reading the words of Mischa you can tell she has wit, she has attitude (not always good, but she tries), and she is determined. You can learn a lot from her, and understand her personality. TT has such a way of writing that you are literally in the characters shoes.

Not often do you come across someone who can write so well about a topic like health. This isn't just your average health book explaining what the disorder is, how it starts, yada yada yada. This is a story, beautifully written, sincere, and definitely from a deep place in the author's heart.

I couldn't find a single flaw to the way TT writes. She has her own way of telling a story, and you can feel her own personality, as an author, is present within each line of this novel. It's a book that I only put down because I had seizures myself from reading so much. Otherwise, I would say it's one of those books you "just can't put down". I read practically all day in bed and loved every minute of it... Until the seizures of course.

This is a MUST-READ. Whether you have Epilepsy or not, this is a beautiful book. A rare peek into the life of a person who deals with something so complex and out-of-this-world that doctors still struggle to this very day to treat it. A peek into the life of a young girl, making her way through life to overcome something much larger than herself.

Mrs. Terry Tracy,
Bravo. Wonderful novel. Thank you for writing it, and giving me the privelage to read this story.

  3. Hi, Mandy. I'm so glad you stopped by to say hello to me and Jen. We appreciate your prayers! I'm saying a prayer right now for you, too.

This does sound like a wonderful book. There are so many things people suffer from. We need to have compassion for everyone, no matter what their trial in life happens to be. And the more we know about something like epilepsy, all the better. I have a cousin who began having seizures when he was about three, but it was a long time ago and I never learned much about epilepsy. I just followed the link and am back. $2.99 for Kindle. I'm going to buy it! Thanks for guiding me to it!!

  5. Right you are! This a great book. I just read it about 2 weeks ago. I really got wrapped up in it. It's hard to believe it's fiction. It sounds so much like somebody's bio. I could identify with sooo much of it. Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it. - Rich
