I remember it was only ten years ago, and I was 8 years old. Waking up one morning to find my parents crying and staring at the television in their room. I was confused, and begged over and over for them to tell me what was happening. They simply held me close, and cried as they watched the attack. Looking at the television I saw the planes crashing into the two buildings that I never knew existed until that day.
The flames were everywhere, and I watched, safely at home as nearly 3,000 people died. I started to cry as my father took us all down to the basement. We were scared. Living in Colorado Springs, next to a military base, we figured we were next after seeing the Pentagon being attacked. I cried mostly because my father wouldn't let me go to school that day, or even that week. But after seeing the people crying on TV over lost loved ones, I cried for a different reason.
So today, on My Life as Mandy, I would like to honor all of those who were lost, and all of those who were affected by 9/11. I didn't lose any loved ones, but I was affected because I knew our country would never forget. So please, take a few moments to honor those who have passed, and those who have helped restore our country. Light a candle, say a prayer, and thank god that we have come such a long way. I am more than proud, but privelaged to say that I'm an American.
If you have lost someone in the 9/11 attack, or if you have been affected by it in any way, please leave a comment below with their name or your feelings. Let's please keep it positive and peaceful in the comments.
